Furst Media Appoints New Fashion Journal Leadership Team

Melbourne-based fashion and lifestyle publication Fashion Journal has appointed a new editorial team to lead its digital and print platforms.

Fashion Journal, Australia’s largest circulating free fashion publication, will be headed by Giulia Brugliera as managing editor and Sasha Gattermayr as digital editor.

It was previously led by editor Leah White, who held the position for more than a decade.

Brugliera joined Fashion Journal in 2013, where she was soon appointed the publication’s digital editor.

She took a sabbatical in late 2017 to finish a BA/LLB and be admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

She now rejoins the team with a renewed vigour and clear direction for the future of the publication.

Gattermayr is a new addition to the Furst Media team, having previously worked with Broadsheet Media and Avenue Bookstore while completing a Graduate Honours in Literature.

Brugliera and Gattermayr commence their roles immediately.

Fashion Journal managing director, Giulia Brugliera said: “I am proud to be rejoining a publication that has long championed emerging talent and supported raw creativity.

“I am excited to renew this focus, while taking Fashion Journal into a bolder, braver direction.

“Since its first issue in 1991, it has been a free magazine, accessible to all and with a brand position like none other in the Australian market.

“Together with Sasha, I am looking forward to elevating the publication to meet its growing potential, reaching over 900,000 print, digital and social readers every month.

“This audience of intelligent, discerning and hungry young readers brings with it the invaluable opportunity to change the conversation Australian fashion media is having with young people, for the better.”

Brugliera continued: “We will also continue to deliver content that is fresh, aspirational, relatable and humorous, offering readers an alternative to expensive and outdated glossies.

“We believe fashion is for everyone – a medium for self exploration, communication, identity and joy – and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.”

Furst Media founder and publisher, Rob Furst said: “Fashion Journal is unique in Australian media – independent with a street fashion heritage going back 28 years.

“We’ve always supported emerging design across all forms of apparel and lifestyle.

“I’m thrilled Giulia is back – in her time at Furst Media from 2013-2017 she was instrumental in pushing FJ forward, furthering our reach, penetration and voice of authority across multiple platforms.

“FJ is one of the loudest voices for fashion and youth lifestyle and a leading trendsetter nationwide – watch this space for innovation as Fashion Journal extends its vision under Giulia integrating street culture and high fashion at the cutting edge.”
