Fairfax Denies Posting Job Position Combining Editorial And Sales

Fairfax Media’s job post for a ‘sales representative & journalist’ in Wagga Wagga has come under some criticism.

The job post, which has since been taken down, was advertising for a person who could  deliver “quality news journalism content” as well as “deliver advertising revenue across a portfolio of products from both print to digital”.

Offending job title:

fairfax

Katelin McInerney, acting director- media for the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance, told a News Corp publication: “(This type of job description) has been in circulation since the beginning of March.

Which really brings into doubt Fairfax’s argument that the position had been a mistake.  A Fairfax spokesperson told the Guardian Australia that the offending job post was a mistake: “This position at a small weekly paper in regional NSW has been mistakenly advertised as a combined role. It should have been two part-time roles, one for sales, another for editorial. It is not our intention to have one person performing both functions.”

Twitter response:

Woah,Fairfax, did you notice the line? Yeah, you crossed it, it’s way back there! http://t.co/z0h2CSJX51 ht @yodaberg pic.twitter.com/hmccAGj0tI— Dave Earley (@earleyedition) June 3, 2015Astonishing job ad for a “Sales Representative and Journalist”.
