Facebook Launches ‘Notify’ App Set To Invade Twitter’s News Space

Facebook has launched a Notify app which is designed to keep iPhone users up to date on the latest news and entertainment around them.

Notify gives users the option to select ‘stations’ they want to receive notifications from, including NBC News, The Atlantic, Slate, The New York Times, The Daily Mail, National Geographic, and the Washington Post.

The notifications will appear on a lock screen, similar to Twitter notification. If you want to see more, just swipe or tap through any Notify notification to open the link in the app’s browser where you can read the full article, watch the video, or view the site.

Notify will also judge whats stations you could be interested in, based on your Facebook profile. The app is only available in the US.

“Whether you’re into sports, celebrities, news, movies, music or shopping, Notify makes it easy to find notifications you’re into,” Facebook product manager Julian Gutman said in a blog post.

This is Facebook’s second announcement this week, as Facebook Australia has just launched a Messenger update which scans users’ photo library and suggests old photos to send to Facebook friends via facial recognition technology.
