Cricket Australia Lines Up Suitors For Radio Broadcast Rights

Cricket Australia Lines Up Suitors For Radio Broadcast Rights

With Seven and Foxtel clinching cricket’s TV broadcast rights in a billion-dollar deal earlier this month, Cricket Australia (CA) has shifted its focus to the radio waves.

The sport’s governing body has recently been in contact with broadcast partners Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) and Macquarie Media to find out what they’re after before it sends out a tender for the next rights deal, which is expected to be in the next two weeks, according to Fairfax.

CA is expected to meet up with the ABC this week, while Crocmedia is also understood to have been in discussions with the sporting body about gaining a share in the broadcast rights.

Fairfax has reported that while SCA and Macquarie want to continue broadcasting cricket, they probably won’t want to pay a lot more for the rights than what they did when signing that last deal in 2013.

Macquaire Media CEO Adam Lang told B&T that the commercial broadcaster was in ongoing communications with CA, “as we have during the course of our last rights agreement”.

B&T has contacted SCA, the ABC and Crocmedia for comment.
