Comedian Merrick Watts Is Leaving Triple M

Southern Cross Austereo has confirmed that comedian and Triple M Sydney drive show host Merrick Watts will be leaving his post at the end of the year.

Triple M’s head of content, Mike Fitzpatrick, said in a statement to B&T that Watts informed the station couple of days ago that he would end his drive radio show this year.

“While we are obviously disappointed, we understand he wants to do some different things,” Fitzpatrick said.

“Merrick has been an integral and much-loved part of the Triple M team across the years, and I’m confident he will continue to appear as a guest from time to time, and perhaps even return to the fold in future.”

Speaking on a podcast hosted by Justin Hamilton called Can You Take This Photo Please, Watts said “now feels like the right time for me to step out”.

“I’m a comedian first, a broadcaster second,” he said.

“I think probably I’ll take a year out of radio next year… at least on a full-time basis.”

“I love radio, and I reckon I’ll go back to it… but a need to have a break from that process of everyday just churning stuff out.”
