Coalition U-turns on internet filter

The Coalition has done a major U-turn on its internet filter policy, claiming it would be an opt-in not opt-out system, contrary to a document they put out yesterday after a backlash on social media.

Yesterday they put out a document outlining plans to protect children online which said there would be a filter on content deemed only suitable for adults, but people would be able to opt out if they could prove they were over 18.

Liberals communications spokesman Malcolm Turnbull had even gone on radio to endorse the document, before having to say there had been a mistake in drafting it. (Audio here at 26 minutes).

The embarrassing blunder comes just hours before the country goes to the polls.

What do you think of the idea of an opt-in filter? Will it work? Leave your comments using the form below.
