Is Carrie Bickmore The Answer To Southern Cross’s Woes?

The Project’s Carrie Bickmore is the latest personality being touted as a possible saviour of Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) floundering breakfast show on 2DayFM.

The show is currently being hosted by Rove McManus and radio newbie and former Bachelorette Sam Frost. Despite running for six months now the breakfast show has struggled to find an audience, although saw a moderate increase in Monday’s ratings. There has been speculation in media circles that it’s Frost that listeners have the problem with and she’s the one headed for the chop.

B&T contacted SCA this morning but the station declined to comment.

SCA is desperate to make inroads into arch rival ARN’s KIIS, particularly against Kyle and Jackie O. Sandilands, of course, makes no secret of his hatred of his former employer SCA and radio rival Rove.

In April he said: “If you worked over at Austereo and you had those Rove McManus figures – that’s three surveys and not one, not one extra person has tuned in. It’s just a joke.

“I gotta laugh, because those imbeciles over there when they told us ‘oh no your show’s probably at the end of its tether…’ and we came over here to KIIS, best decision ever made.”

The 35-year-old Bickmore is a Logie Award winner and has previously worked with McManus on his earlier TV shows. She told News.com.au this morning that she wouldn’t rule out working with her former boss.

“I heard the rumour and I would never say no to working with Rove again. I had a laugh when I heard that. Friends in radio texted me saying, ‘What are you doing?’ It isn’t true,” she said.

However, Bickmore is now into her eighth year on The Project and certainly could be enticed to switch considering the massive salaries station’s throw at talent, namely at breakfast.
