B&T Fast 30: OMD & GroupM Buyers On The Upfronts, The “Poo Jogger”, Radio Struggles & Victoria’s Secret

Welcome back to the latest episode of B&T’s Fast 30 podcast!

We also have an insightful chat with two head media buyers from OMD and GroupM on their thoughts about the upfronts so far.

Nine and 10’s upfronts (starts from 16 mins 30 secs)

B&T chats with head media buyers at GroupM (Nicola Lewis) and OMD (Jane Combes) about their thoughts on the upfronts so far and how they’ll be investing in 2020. New MasterChef judges 

Network 10 has announced its 2020 MasterChef judges at its annual upfronts event. Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen will replace long-standing MasterChef judges George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston who sensationally announced their exit from the show in July. Zonfrillo, Leong and Allen will be joined in the MasterChef Australia kitchen by an assortment of the world’s best chefs, including Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal and Curtis Stone, to serve up the 12th helping of MasterChef Australia.

Victoria’s Secret goes trans-gender and plus-size 

Victoria’s Secret recently unveiled its first “plus-size” model, the first to grace its stores in its 42-year history. The brand’s campaign, which is in collaboration with British lingerie brand Bluebella, features body positive campaigner Ali Tate Cutler alongside transgender model May Simón Lifschitz, which is certainly a far cry from Razek’s comments last year (former CMO Ed Razek said it would ruin “the fantasy” of the show to include more diverse models).

The Roxy Jacenko ‘Poo Jogger’ saga

The never-ending poo jogger saga continues, with both Jackie O’ and Roxy Jacenko herself rumoured to be the jogger wreaking havoc across Paddington. The viral video shows a blonde haired woman in gym gear apparently passing a bowel movement at the front entrance to Jacenko’s Watson Street offices. Jacenko alleges it’s not the first time the woman – who’s been dubbed the ‘Paddington Pooper’ – has performed the act with Jacenko reporting she’s repeatedly found human faeces in the street over the past three weeks. Apparently, it has now escalated into a police matter.

Commercial radio revenue is down 

Ad revenue for metro commercial radio stations fell by 10.2 percent to $181.432 million in the September quarter of 2019, from $202.109 million a year ago, according to data by Deloitte. Ad revenue fell in all capital cities, with the largest market, Melbourne, down 8.68 per cent to $59.371 million and Sydney down 11.44 per cent to $55.043 million compared to this time last year.
