“Boring Shithole!” SBS Reporter Forced To Apologise Over Savage Adelaide Takedown

SBS broadcaster Lucy Zelic has apologised after calling Adelaide “boring and dull” and a “shithole”.

Zelic unleashed on the City of Churches while interviewing Central Coast Mariners new Scottish recruit Ziggy Gordon on The World Game football podcast on Monday.

“You won’t see much in Adelaide,” Zelic told Gordon after he told her what Aussie cities he’d visited. “Adelaide’s a shithole. No disrespect, no disrespect.”

Zelic’s comments immediately drew criticism with the state’s premier Steven Marshall describing the remarks as “completely outrageous” and demanded the presenter apologise, something she did via a tweet yesterday afternoon.

“Yesterday I made an off-handed comment about Adelaide on The World Game LIVE,” Zelic wrote. “I recognise these comments weren’t okay and I’m truly sorry for what I said.”

However, social media comments were less kind and suggested that Zelic had no right to slam Adelaide considering she was born in Canberra.

“Thanks for the apology @LucyZelic but you are still banned from drinking our wine or eating our seafood for 12 months starting today,” wrote one to Twitter.

“I love living in Adelaide … is great place to raise a family but not everyone’s cup of tea,” penned another.

“I’m sure they’ll be happy when they see this apology in half an hour,” said another.

Zelic’s comments follow on from the launch of a new South Australian tourism campaign launched earlier this month that was widely slammed for being ageist and depressing and doing little to promote visitors to the state.

The ad by TBWA\Melbourne showed an elderly man who’d apparently left it to late in life to take in the tourism delights of the state. Check it out below:
