App That Shows You What You’ll Look Like As You Age Goes Viral But Raises Privacy Concerns

An app that shows you what you’ll look like in the future has gone viral on social media, but one developer has pointed out a gaping security flaw.

You will be able to find an example of what the app, called FaceApp, can do by taking a quick scroll through social media, with celebrities and sports teams having jumped on the bandwagon in recent days.

However software developer Joshua Nozzi posted the following warning on social media.

“BE CAREFUL WITH FACEAPP – the face aging fad app. It immediately uploads your photos without asking, whether you chose one or not,” he said.

“As soon as I granted access to my photos it started listing them slowly a row at a time, almost like network delays. I quickly hit Airplane Mode and it instantly listed them all, refusing to let me select any because I’m offline. IT’S UPLOADING ALL YOUR PHOTOS.”

But his claims have since been refuted, security researcher Elliot Anderson pointing out the app only uploads the single photo that has been modified to its server, not others as Nozzi suggested.

The app is not new, and in fact, there were security concerns over the Russian company’s vague privacy guidelines back in 2017.

Whether FaceApp takes care of user data or not, some of the latest modified photos uploaded to social media have been hilarious.
