Tennis viewers jump ahead of semi-finals

Tennis fans returned to Seven last night as two star players, Roger Federer and Andy Murray, battled it out for a place in the 2014 Australian Open semi-finals.

The tennis won top spot for Seven last night and 1.279 million viewers as 767,000 people stayed tuned to the late night matches, according to OzTam’s preliminary ratings.

The result is a jump from Tuesday night when Seven won 896,000 for the early evening matches and 793,000 for its late night broadcast.

The tennis’ ratings jump saw Seven’s total share of all free-to-air viewers rise to 38.3% with 30.7% for its main channel.

The cricket struggled against the Open’s big-name players last night with the Big Bash League on Ten pulling in only 432,000 viewers at 7.30pm.

The second half of game 29 won 509,000 viewers for Ten.

Ten’s total share of all FTA viewers was 16.7% putting it in third place behind Nine (24.8%). Ten’s primary channel won 9.8% of all FTA viewers as Nine’s took home 17.1%.

The ABC sat on a total 15.6% share last night with 9.5% for ABC1. SBS won 4.6% with 3.3% of that going to SBS ONE.
