Reality shows battle it out

Reality TV shows are all the rage with Nine and Seven’s reality shows battling it out for the top program last night.

However, Seven’s My Kitchen Rules pulled ahead with 1.883 million viewers last night, bringing the network to victory.

Nine’s The Block scored silver from the 1.149 million viewers that tuned in, Melbourne being the most interested with 362,000 viewers snuggled up on the couch.

Seven and Nine continued the battle all through the top ten programs with no other networks standing a chance against them, according to last night’s ratings by Oztam preliminary metro ratings.

The ABC news was the first program from a channel other than Seven and Nine within the top 20 as 859,000 people turned on the TV to see what was making the headlines that day.

Ten’s coverage of the men’s snowboard cross final only brought in 640,000 with Melbourne and Sydney being the top contenders for bringing in the most viewers (Melbourne had 211,000 and Sydney saw 202,000).

In terms of the total combined share, Seven scored a very respectable 33.8% of the total share, with 27% going to its primary channel.

Nine came in second with 26.2%, 21.2% of that going to its main channel.

It was a battle between networks again with Ten and ABC racing to see who would come third, but Ten managed to zip ahead with 18.2%, just beating out ABC’s 17.6%.

SBS came fifth with 4.2%.
