Network court battle erupts over Mel B

Network court battle erupts over Mel B

The Nine Network remains confident that Mel B will take her place on its revamped series of Australia’s Got Talent, despite Channel Seven taking out a court injunction against the move.

The gloves have come off between the two networks over Nine’s recent poaching of the former X Factor judge.

Seven has taken Mel B to the NSW Supreme Court in an attempt to prevent her from defecting to its rival just weeks after she gave her notice.

Nine confirmed to B&T that the injunction is only a temporary one and will lapse on Monday.

A spokesperson for Nine said: “We fully expect Mel B to take her place on the panel of Australia’s Got Talent and we're really look forward to working with her."

Nine recently persuaded the former Spice Girl to leave X Factor for Australia's Got Talent, prompting Seven to initiated court proceedings.

Seven has claimed the former Spice Girl was under a conditional contract preventing her from signing with any network other than Seven until January next year.

When contacted by B&T, a spokesperson for Seven said the network could not comment while the injunction was in place.

Nine signed up the singer to join its new panel of judges, alongside British comedian Dawn French and Sydney radio host Kyle Sandilands.
