EMMA sectional data shows travel, taste and TV most popular

Travel, taste and TV are the winners in sectional figures released from the new Enhanced Media Metrics Australia (EMMA) report today, with more people taking time to read at weekends.

One of the boasts of the new readership survey, created by publisher’s body The Newspaper Works, is the first ever breakdown of what people actually look at when they pick up a physical paper. See more on the EMMA and Roy Morgan figures here.

In the metric daily sections are measured on the weekly audience, while weekly sections are measured on a monthly basis. 

Sport features relatively low on the list of most regularly read sections, with weekly travel, TV, food and lifestyle sections the most thoroughly devoured.

The Sunday Telegraph can claim the three most-read sections in the country with TV Guide 1.455m, Body + Soul 1.449m, Escape 1.425m, with sister title Melbourne’s Sunday Herald Sun’s Escape does 1.2m, Body + Soul 1.016m TV Guide 1.176m.

The weekday editions for the Tele sees Taste.com.au (Tue) with 896,000 and Carsguide (Fri) 760,000 as its most popular sections, while the Herald Sun has Escape (Fri) 1.213m, Taste.com.au (Tue) 1.111m and the daily sport getting a million as its most read.

Rival the Sydney Morning Herald peaks with Saturday’s diverse Spectrum (1.027m), Traveller 998,000 and the News Review with 909,000, while weekdays sees The Guide (Mon) 824,000, Good Food (Tue) 786,000 and The Shortlist (Fri) 675,000.

The Age sees Thursday’s Green Guide as its most read with 977,000, with The Shortlist (Fri) 791,000, and Epicure (Tue) 783,000, while the Saturday edition boastsLife & Style 810,000, Traveller 762,000 and Domain 675,000as its most-viewed.

For the national papers The Weeked Australian is by far more pored through, with Review 999,000, Travel & Indulgence 980,000 and Inquirer 827,000 outstripping the weekday sections for Higher Education (Weds) 384,000, Australian IT (Weds) 384,000 and the daily Business 374,000.

The Australian Financial Review peaks on Tuesday with Technology getting 336,000 and Friday’s New Review 333,000.

West Australian boasts Travel (Thur) 609,000 and Habitat (Fri) 544,000 as its most read.
