Ashes cricket to be aired on 2UE, 3AW

First it was Kerry Packer taking away the television rights in the 1970s thanks to the famous World Series Cricket saga, now the ABC is seeing the same thing happen to the radio broadcasting rights for the cricket, a report from the Sydney Morning Herald has reported.

The report says that 2UE and 3AW will now be able to call this summer’s Ashes series alongside the ABC’s call.

Last summer the ABC lost the right to broadcast its radio call digitally owing to an exclusivity deal struck with Nine to stream the cricket over its own apps.

Channel Nine hasn’t had it all its own however, with Channel Ten securing the popular shortened version of the game in the Big Bash League, which last year was only on Foxtel.
