2DayFM pair’s emotional interviews fall behind news

The 2DayFM DJs’ dual emotional interviews failed to score top ratings last night, outstripped by the Nine and Seven news bulletins.

Michael Christian and Mel Greig, the pair behind the royal prank that sparked global condemnation, appeared on A Current Affair and Today Tonight for the first time since nurse Jacintha Saldanha’s suspected suicide.

ACA’s interview reeled in 1,094,000 viewers to come third on the ratings ladder, while Today Tonight captured 1,023,000.

But Nine’s 6pm news bulletin – which featured a preview of the interview – won the night with 1,193,000. Seven News followed with 1,160,000.

ABC’s news bulletin rounded out the top five, with 909,000 tuning in at 7pm.
