Woolworths’ “Special Person’s Day” Cake Causes Father’s Day Fury

Woolworths’ attempts to be non-offensive this Father’s Day appears to have backfired after photos of a cake iced with “special person’s day” was shown amongst its Father’s Day cakes.

The offending chocolate sponge was spotted by a Queensland dad yesterday and the image uploaded to Woolworths’ Facebook page.

It quickly was derided as “absolutely disgraceful” amid calls to boycott the grocer.

It appeared to particularly rankle men with one dad writing: “This is a down right disgrace to me as a father and I won’t be shopping for cakes at Woolworths anymore.”

Another added: “Dear Woolworths, this better be a sick joke on your behalf, if not this is really disrespectful.”

“This is a disgrace and total disrespect to all fathers in Australia today… How dare you Woolworths?” wrote another.

A woman said the cake was a “slap in the face to all the wonderful dads”.

In its response, a spokesperson for Woolworth said: “We’re currently looking into this display with our store teams. We want to reassure you that we’re helping all customers across Australia celebrate Father’s Day as seen from our store displays, products and recipe ideas. Cropped out of this image are a range of decorative cakes that have different messages on them, including ‘Dad’ and ‘Happy Father’s Day’. Thanks again for sharing.”
