Top Car Brands: Audi Takes First Spot As Fiat, Jeep & Mitsubishi Given The Thumbs Down

A new study into the planet’s top car brands has once again awarded the German-built Audi in the number one spot based on its performance, reliability, owner satisfaction and safety.

The annual study by US consumer magazine Consumer Reports admittedly focused on the American market, however the top places were dominated by German and Japanese built vehicles. Check out the full study here.

Audi retained its top spot it won in 2015, followed by Porsche, BMW, Lexus and Subaru rounding out the top five. However, it should be noted Subaru dropped from second in 2016. The biggest drop belonged to Mini, that feel 11 place from the previous year, while the biggest improver was Chrysler up seven spots to 19th position.

Because the study was US, no Australian-built vehicles featured.

Of the 31 brands tested, Fiat came in at last position, with Jeep, Mitsubishi and Land Rover all give the thumbs down.

The results do not include the corporate behaviour of the manufacturer, that said, the much maligned Volkswagen faired worse than average.
