The Leo Burnett boss to lend his marketing expertise to Australia's national carrier.

Qantas has appointed Leo Burnett boss Todd Sampson as a director in an effort to boost the level of marketing experience on its board.

Sampson, who also sits on the board of Fairfax Media, the publisher of BusinessDay, will boost the number of Qantas directors to 10, which includes the airline’s chief executive Alan Joyce.

Qantas chairman Leigh Clifford said Sampson’s appointment would provide board-level marketing expertise for one of Australia’s most enduring and recognised brands.

“Todd will bring a wealth of marketing experience to the Qantas board, as well as broader business acumen from the senior leadership and strategy roles he has held,” Clifford said.

Sampson, known for donning t-shirts instead of business suits, said in a statement that Qantas was one of most iconic brands in the world and “it is an honour to join the board”.
