The Star Takes State of Origin Experience To The Next Level For Blues Fans With Blatchys SMARTWiG

As the major sponsor the NSW Blues for this year’s State of Origin NRL series, The Star Sydney has taken the experience for fans to the next level with the launch of an innovative new wig.

The NSW Blues supporter group, The Star Blatchys Blues, is famous for its iconic blue wig, and The Star has given it an upgrade.

The Blatchys SMARTWiG is fitted with an LED antenna to light up when the lights go down and an in-built headphone connecting wearers to SMARTWiG radio – six hours of customised radio programming, including Triple M’s commentary and live call of the on-field action during the game.

The wig will be available exclusively to 12,000 Star Blatchys ticket holders at ANZ Stadium for game two of State of Origin on Wednesday 21 June.

Melinda Madigan, general manager of marketing and entertainment at The Star Sydney, said the Blatchys SMARTWiG will enhance the State of Origin experience for Blues fans.

“The Star will literally be ‘bleeding blue’ as we look forward to thrilling NSW Blues fans with the most interactive live in-stadia sporting experience yet,” she said.

“This is part of Sydney’s biggest multi-platform, multi-venue celebration of the NSW Blues curated by The Star and our proud investment in the most iconic sporting moments in Sydney.

“We’re excited to launch an innovative update to the famous Blatchys blue wig and bring new light to ANZ Stadium as we take our partnership to a whole new level in support of the NSW Blues.”

Jodie Cross, head of commercial at NSWRL, said: “It is a great way for our fans to experience the game and the first time any Australian sport has been able to implement something like this.

“It’s something you can’t get in your lounge room. It’s a Blatchys Blues exclusive benefit – you have to be at the game to experience it. We strongly urge Blues supporters to get in while stocks last.”

The Star Sydney will also be ignited with Blues fever across all three games with exclusive on-property celebrations, including appearances by NSW Origin legends providing real-time game commentary, cheerleaders and all the live Origin action on the giant screens at its 24/7 sports bar.
