Shazam hires new chief marketer for TV push

Shazam has a new chief marketing officer with Patricia Parra joining from gaming start-up OUYA to lead the app’s push into the second-screen TV market.

“Sydney, Australia – June 12, 2014 – Shazam® today announced that Patricia Parra has joined the company as its Chief Marketing Officer and will report to the CEO, Rich Riley. As CMO, Parra will drive the brand vision, craft the marketing and communications strategies and lead the overall marketing function for the company. This includes enriching Shazam’s user experience to deliver increased benefits to the 450 million current devotees, and leading the continued expansion of Shazam into multiple entertainment and content services as a global engagement brand. Parra will be based in New York.

Parra brings more than 15 years of experience in consumer marketing for entertainment and digital brands. Parra joins Shazam from OUYA where she served as the CMO for the popular gaming start-up and Kickstarter darling. Before OUYA she was Head of Content Marketing at Hulu where she led global brand strategy, original series campaigns and launched new products such as Hulu Latino and Hulu Japan. Prior to Hulu, Parra was part of the Digital Network Distribution team at HBO, where she was instrumental in the implementation and marketing of revolutionary entertainment products including HBO On Demand and HBO GO. “
