Finger Lickin’ Nope: KFC Launches Chicken-Flavoured Sunscreen

First it was KFC flavoured nail polish, now it’s KFC flavoured sunscreen; In a product which probably no-one asked for, U.S franchise KFC is giving away free tubes of sunscreen that makes you smell like Colonel’s secret 11 herbs and spices.

According to the KFC sunscreen website: “The sun gives us life. But if we’re not careful it also gives us painful sunburns. That’s why we made KFC’s Extra Crispy Sunscreen! Its SPF helps protect your skin while the real fried chicken scent leaves you smelling delicious!”

‘Unfortunately’ the promotion has already finished, with KFC representative saying an estimated 3,000 tubes of fried chicken sunscreen were snapped up in two hours during the promotion. The stunt included a KFC TVC featuring the new Colonel actor George Hamilton.

But there is a warning with the sunscreen: “Available for a limited time only. Side effects may include the Extra Crispy™ lifestyle and smelling like fried chicken. KFC® Extra Crispy™ Sunscreen is an actual product. KFC® Extra Crispy™ Sunscreen is not a food product. NOT a food product. Do not eat this product. Even though this product smells delicious, it is not delicious. The only skin that should be extra crispy this summer is on your fried chicken.”

“We’ve had a lot of fun with our Extra Crispy Colonel campaign this summer and the sunscreen idea seemed like a natural fit,” a KFC spokesperson told Fortune. Our chicken is hand breaded and freshly prepared in our kitchens all day every day, which makes the smell in our restaurants unparalleled. The Extra Crispy Sunscreen is a fun way to leverage that with our fans.”
