“F@ck These Plates To Hell!” Department Store Forced To Recall “Fat Shaming” Dinnerware

Famous US department store Macy’s is in a spot of customer bother after a range of dinner plates it was selling was called out for “promoting fat shaming and food guilt”.

The ceramic dinnerware came complete with suggested serving sizes that included “skinny jeans,” “favourite jeans”, while the largest one was called “mom jeans”.

As these things to do, podcast host and TV producer Alie Ward saw the plates in-store and quickly tweeted her rage.

“How can I get these plates from Macy’s banned in all 50 states?” Ward wrote.

And it appears Ward has universal support, many fellow tweeters agreeing the plates promoted “eating disorders” and “body issues” and should be removed immediately.

Soon, body positive activist and The Good Place star, Jameela Jamil, joined the conversation. “Fuck these plates,” Jamil Tweeted. “Fuck these plates to hell, Macy’s.”

“Oh yay, commodified starvation. Very healthy. Such jokes,” tweeted another.

Another wrote: “This is a toxic message, promoting even greater women beauty standards and dangerous health habits. These expectations can actually kill someone, and I know someone it has. @Macys, remove this from all of your stores and denounce the manufacturer.”

“All these people trying to defend the shitty design… LOL! Imagine thinking a circle labelled ‘skinny jeans’ big enough to hold like two chicken nuggets is demonstrating ‘healthy portion control’…. The only thing it’s teaching is body shaming, and nothing to do with health.”

It’s understood that the plates were only available at Macy’s speciality store in New York and the retailer quickly agreed to pull the range following the furore.

In a tweeted response to Ward, a Macy’s spokesperson said: “Hi, Alie – we appreciate you sharing this with us and agree that we missed the mark on this product. It will be removed from all STORY [sic] at Macy’s locations.”
