Time to get excited all you Apple fans as the digital world has been sent into overdrive by reports Apple will launch its next iPhone on September 9. If the rumors are true and iPhone does reveal a larger-screened smartphone the mobile/tablet mix could have a significant impact on the way we use our phones. We may even see the expanded smartphone screen fade out tablets. Whatever the result, it is sure to have an impact on mobile marketing.

Apple is expected to hold an event to introduce its new iPhones on Sept. 9, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The timing of Apple’s announcement would fall in line with its recent track record of announcing the new phones in early- to mid-September and then starting sales a few weeks later.

The timing of the event was reported earlier by technology news site Re/code. Apple declined to comment.

Later this year, Apple is expected to launch two large-screen iPhones, one with a 4.7-inch display and another with a 5.5-inch display, according to people familiar with the matter. The Cupertino, Calif., company is asking suppliers to manufacture between 70 million and 80 million units combined of the new iPhones – which are larger than the current models with a display measuring 4-inches diagonally.

Apple has stuck with smaller displays on iPhones even as rival smartphone makers rolled out bigger screens and customers clamored for larger phones.
