Ex Qantas marketing chief hired by NRL

The NRL has announced that Lewis Pullen, the former marketing boss at Qantas, has been appointed to lead its marketing, digital and content.

Pullen (pictured), who departed the airline in May, has worked extensively in the sports sphere through his leadership of Qantas' sports sponsorships, where he had to deal with the game’s major broadcast and media partners.

The NRL said his appointment ensures a greater resourcing of the game’s marketing area and will see him work closely with the NRL head of commercial, Paul Kind.

“We have been committed to building a team that can grow the game significantly in the years ahead,” NRL chief executive Dave Smith said in a statement on its website this morning.

“Lewis’s experience in strategic brand marketing and digital content is the perfect fit for what we are looking to achieve in growing the value of Rugby League.

“With Jim Doyle, Todd Greenberg, Paul Kind, Mark Wilson, Shane Mattiske and Nick Weeks we are putting together a team that can unlock the game’s true potential," he added.
