The indomitable Dame Helen Mirren has described L’Oreal’s range of moisturisers as “probably doing f@ck all”, and this from the women who is the cosmetic range’s global brand ambassador.

Dame Helen is the face of L’Oreal’s “Age Perfect” moisturiser and, as part of her representation, she insists none of her ads are retouched.

However, speaking about her brand ambassador role over the weekend, Dame Helen said, “I’m not setting standards for others. All I can do is be who I am. I’ve always loved make-up.

“I’m an eternal optimist. I know that when I put my moisturiser on it probably does f@ck all, but it just makes me feel better.

“I’ve always said to L’Oreal as well that I will only do what makes me feel better,” she said.

The famed actor and contrarian was speaking at at an event in the south of France and added her chagrin at seeing teenage models used in cosmetics adverts, too.

“It used to drive me crazy that the ads promoting skin products were using pictures of 15 and 16-year-old girls,” she said.

“As a 30-year-old, I used to look at that and think, what the f@ck are you talking about? It was ridiculous. Pissed me off majorly. Advertisers are only just coming out of that, and it’s taken them a long time.”

L’Oreal have not yet made any comments following Dame Helen’s weekend observations.
