A Sydney lawyer has been charged with stealing nearly $10 million from the broadcast and investment companies of media mogul Bruce Gordon.
Brody Clarke is accused of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by instructing Deutsche Bank to transfer $7.3 million from Birteku (Gordon’s investment vehicle) and $2.5 million from WIN to his personal Westpac account while working at Atanaskovic Hartnell Lawyers, according to Fairfax.
Atanaskovic Hartnell Lawyers is a boutique corporate law firm, and also happens to be a long-term legal advisor to WIN and Gordon (pictured above).
It’s alleged the transfers – which happened on eight separate occasions between June 2016 and August 2017 – were made to fuel Clarke’s gambling habit.
Fairfax reported that Birteku is also suing Clarke, Westpac and a number of betting agencies such as Sportsbet, Tabcorp and Betfair to try and recover the stolen money in a separate case.
Clarke was granted bail at yesterday, and will return to court on Wednesday 14 March.
