King Content has announced the appointment of Gary Power as commercial director, Melbourne as part of an existing push towards rapid growth in its Melbourne operations.

Previously group business director of the Victorian Government and GE Australia, Power brings with him a wealth of experience from an eclectic mix of brands and industries. He arrives at King Content ready with a clear vision to help expand its innovation offerings to clients.

Power joins King Content to manage the company’s Melbourne-based content strategies, editorial and social media teams, and to oversee all client services. His appointment is in response to a suite of high-profile national client wins.

Power, who pioneered one of Australia’s first-ever content marketing and native advertising campaigns for GE Australia, said:

“I’m delighted to be joining King Content. I’ve worked with their early set-up team back in GE days and have watched them trailblaze the local and global marketplace with their pioneering content marketing thinking and technology smarts. I can’t wait to get started.”

Power is a 12-year veteran in the marketing and communications industry, being named one of ‘Europe’s Top 40 Marketers under the age of 40’ by M&M Magazine. He brings strong knowledge and expertise from the European market, having worked for Publicis Groupe and Omnicon Group in Ireland for nine years.

John McGuire, GM, Melbourne said: “We are delighted to confirm Gary as commercial director at the King Content Melbourne office. He has a brilliant content marketing technique, and brings with him a wealth of experience in managing diverse client portfolios and media departments. Gary’s devised strategies to date have been truly inspiring and he’s exactly what we need to spearhead KC’s new business drive. I have no doubt that Gary will help the team in driving forward our ambitious global growth plans upon entering the digital era.

“We feel Gary holds just the right blend of commercial acumen, strategy and execution knowledge, and senior management experience. Above all else, he is an innovative forward-thinker, making him more than qualified to handle the competitive challenges of our environment. I have no doubt his assistance will be vital as we work to develop our offerings across both content and digital services.”

Shortly prior to Gary’s appointment, King Content Melbourne welcomed John McGuire, former vice president of digital production at Alcone Marketing Group, as general manager. This followed the Melbourne team’s move to bigger offices in Little Lonsdale Street.

King Content is rapidly expanding across the globe, hiring key talent across all facets of the business. Recent additions include Christie Poulos, former Red Bull Head of Content, as head of video strategy, John McGuire, former VP of digital production at Alcone Marketing Group, as general manager of the Melbourne office, and Geraint Holliman, former director of strategy and head of content marketing at DirectionGroup, as head of strategy at the London office.
