In a case of truly poor timing, KFC has had to suspend its latest Finger Lickin’ Good campaign because, well, now is just not a good time to be licking your fingers. You know, COVID-19 pandemic and all that.
The campaign, which premiered in the United Kingdom and Ireland in late February, features diners enjoying the taste of KFC’s popular fried chicken by licking their fingers clean.
While there is nothing inherently wrong with the ad, as the novel coronavirus spreads throughout Europe and the rest of the world, some viewers found the ad somewhat irresponsible.
In fact, over 150 people complained to the UK’s advertising review board, according to The Drum. And now, as of last Thursday, KFC has pulled the ad for the time being.
Of the 163 complaints, most critics said it was “irresponsible” for KFC to encourage people to lick their fingers during a pandemic where face-touching is off-limits.
