Karl Stefanovic Talks ‘Ubergate’ Fallout At Nine (& Reveals He Called Kyle Sandilands For Advice)

Nine’s prized breakfast show treasure, Karl Stefanovic, has revisited his infamous venting session involving brother Peter and an Uber, admitting that the network “weren’t happy”.

Details of the explosive telephone conversation between the Stefanovic brothers were revealed back in March in New Idea after a Sydney Uber driver came forward suggesting he’d recorded it while Peter and his wife (and fellow Nine personality Sylvia Jeffreys) were in the back seat of his car.

According to the article, the brothers launched an extraordinary attack on Karl’s Today colleague Georgie Gardner, its flagship current affairs program 60 Minutes, Nine management, and other on-air talent at the network – all on speakerphone.

Speaking on KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O show this morning, Karl admitted the incident caused a fallout at Nine, saying the network “weren’t happy, and upstairs weren’t happy”.

“Whatever comes out of my mouth I’m responsible for, and if that brings the company into disrepute, that’s on me. I accept full responsibility,” he said.

It also turns out that Karl sought advice from Kyle Sandilands once the Ubergate story broke.

“I said, ‘Mate, this is just a bad place I’m in right now, a lot of other stuff’s going on too’,” Karl revealed.

“And he said to me, ‘Mate, I don’t think it’s a big deal. You have to say sorry, blah blah, but when you’re losing advertisers, that’s when you’ve gotta worry’.”
