Jumbla Expands Beyond Melbourne To Rival City Sydney

Animation and motion graphics studio, Jumbla, has officially opened in Sydney: its first expansion beyond its native Melbourne. The rapidly-growing studio started just five years ago, as a team of two. It has since grown to a team of over 30, with new talent consistently being sought.

The new Sydney site reflects a growing appetite for the work of the stylistically-diverse studio. In its short time, it’s gathered an impressive list of clients, including Coca-Cola, Toyota, Ogilvy and McCann.

The Sydney operation will be led by senior producer Laura Breaden, who says it was a logical development.

“While Jumbla has been based in Melbourne, we’ve always attracted clients from across the country and from other parts of the globe,“ she said.

“Sydney has – for a while now – been a special place to us, with many clients reaching out to us from there. This expansion makes a lot of sense. It’s going to enable us to service our loyal clients even better, with more on-the-ground, face-to-face interaction.”

Jumbla’s Sydney clients include King Content, Riot Games and University of Technology Sydney, just to name a few. Creative director Cal Woolcock, one of Jumbla’s founders, said Sydney is potentially the first of many new cities the studio hopes to eventually call home.

“This move is really exciting for us. We’re at the stage where we’re able and ready to extend our reach, and Sydney is the right place for us to grow a second team. We wouldn’t rule out the idea of an eventual international footprint either, given the growing demand globally for animation and motion graphics.”

In Sydney, Jumbla will be based at Surry Hills, starting with a small team that will expand over the coming months.

Client services manager Steve Bradshaw said the new site comes during what’s been a successful year for the young studio. The studio was recently named an honouree at the Webby awards for its piece “Polished Man”.

“Many refer to this international ceremony as the ‘Oscars of the Internet’, so to be recognised at such a prestigious event was a real honour. The judging panel made reference to the quality of craft in our work,” he said.

“Agencies, production houses and direct clients come to us because we’re a large team, with a higher proportion of creative staff.

“Our talent pool and shared knowledge enables us to tackle any project with confidence, irrespective of scope. Opening a new office in another part of the country will take our capabilities even further when it comes to delivering the best service to our clients.”
