We are seeking a New South Wales state correspondent to join our newsroom in Sydney.

The New South Wales state correspondent will lead coverage of NSW news with a strong emphasis on state politics and liaise with the newsdesk and state news editor to prioritise a news agenda for a NSW geo-located container on Guardian Australia’s site. This role will be required to write daily breaking news stories on state issues and explain, analyse and give context to NSW stories for Guardian Australia’s readers in NSW and other states.

This role will suit an experienced journalist with demonstrated experience in initiating and researching original and impactful NSW news stories, investigations and features, and a track record in covering NSW state politics.

The successful candidate will also have demonstrated news-breaking and investigative experience, the ability to work with editors on planning coverage, a good understanding of media law, familiarity and ease with social media, and the ability to direct more junior reporters.
