We are recruiting for an assistant news editor to join our newsroom on a 12-month contract.
In this role you will work alongside other desk editors to help set Guardian Australia’s news agenda by planning, editing and commissioning news stories for the site. You will monitor news sources, commission correspondents and reporters, edit copy, ensure stories are well placed and optimised, plan and commission news features, develop ideas, help allocate resources for stories and engage with readers in an imaginative way.

This role is being offered on a full-time, 12-month contract, working over a seven-day roster with early starts and late finishes. The position will ideally be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
