Instagram’s 2018 Year In Review

In 2018, Australians came together on Instagram to creatively express themselves and get closer to the people and things they love.

The data from Instagram reveals how Aussies are interacting on Instagram, including the top five Australian accounts on the platform, top posts by an Aussie, top geotagged locations nationwide, top geotagged locations in each state and top geotagged beaches.

Global data was also released showing trends such as the Most Used Face Filter in Instagram Stories and number of times ❤️ was used in comments.

Speaking on the data, Facebook and Instagram group industry director Naomi Shepherd said: “Love is in the air on Instagram this year, with our global community sharing the heart emoji 14 billion times in comments, and choosing the heart-eyes as the most popular face filter in 2018.

“In Australia, #love was our most-used hashtag, reaffirming Instagram as a place to express yourself and get closer to the people and things you care about.

“Other top performers on a local level include Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach, which ranked as the top tagged location in the country and Chris Hemsworth who has been named as the most-loved Aussie on Instagram this year.”

Shepherd added: “Instagram has long connected people and brands with unique and creative content and we’re thrilled the platform has continued to be a positive place for the Australian community.

“The release of Instagram’s biggest trends of the year reveals how our people on the platform uses Instagram to connect with their favourite people and communities, share the interests they’re passionate about, and support the issues that matter the most to them.”
