iHeartRadio launches mobile apps

Australian Radio Network (ARN) has launched the iPhone and Android app for its free digital music streaming service, iHeartRadio.

The launch of the apps comes ahead of schedule, following the introduction of iHeartRadio into the Australian market on August 5.

The apps were originally scheduled for launch on September 23.

ARN’s national director for digital and iHeartRadio Kate Beddoe said: “We’ve made it a priority to develop the iHeartRadio app as quickly as possible so that Australian users can now access the music, stations and exclusive US content they love on their phones anywhere, anytime.”

Ciaran Davis, ARN’s CEO, added: “iHeartRadio is a free, incredibly easy to use service and the mobile app extends this experience allowing us to be everywhere our listeners are. This is our next step in bringing the world’s leading digital music service to market.”

The app feature live radio with access to more than 1,000 stations from Australia, New Zealand and US.

Like the desktop service the app allows users to create custom stations, gives access to ‘Perfect For’ stations that are generated based on activities or moods.

It also features a sleep timer which lets users listen to live or custom stations, allowing them to set the amount of time the station plays in increments from 15 minutes to three hours.
