Instagram has announced the winner of the inaugural IGTV Film Festival.
Five young film makers were selected as finalists for the first IGTV Film Festival held in Sydney on Tuesday night.
The inaugural theme for the films was ‘future’, exploring themes of diversity, identity, technology and environment, with finalists creating short films utilising the vertical IGTV platform.
Sara Glaoua’s (pictured), ‘The Gift’ was chosen as the winner by an industry jury including Nashen Moodly from Sydney Film Festival, Katy Roberts from VICE and Zaac d’Almeida from Instagram.
‘The Gift’ was an outstanding three minute film showing Matios, a young Ethiopian refugee from Tasmania with a dream of becoming a professional soccer player.
The film embodied elements of passion, determination and diversity, mirroring the theme of ‘future’ perfectly.
