How Many Albums Do You Need To Sell To Break ARIA Number 1?

If you are one of the 4,149 people who purchased Meghan Trainor’s album Title  then thanks a lot, because of you she’s hit number one on the ARIA album charts.

The All About That Bass singer has topped the charts with a total of 4,149 albums sold.

Unfortunately Trainor’s album is not the lowest selling No. 1 in Australian chart history, that prize goes to metal band Bring Me The Horizon who topped the ARIA album chart on just 3600 sales back in 2010.

According to the ARIA website, “There is no fixed number of sales required to achieve a certain chart position on any given week. A rough guide can be drawn by looking at the average accreditation over a number of weeks. For example, if a title goes Gold in 7 weeks it could be assumed that it has sold an average of 5,000 copies per week (35,000 sales/7 weeks)”.

The ARIA album chart is calculated from physical and digital sales, it does not take into account the data from streaming sites including Spotify, Rdio and Pandora.
