Here Are The Movies Val Morgan Reckons Will Break Records This Year

Massive franchises from the DC Universe (Suicide Squad) and Marvel Cinematic Universe (Captain America: Civil War) are set to break more records whilst family favourites from Walt Disney (The Jungle Book) and Pixar (The Secret Life of Pets) are set warm the hearts of millions.

2016 will see demand for movies continue with distributors continuing to invest more into the production of huge blockbusters and exhibitors enhancing the overall cinema experience. Cinema company Val Morgan has identified a list of the top movies to look out for in 2016:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice | 24 March
The DC Universe presents the tale of two legendary superheroes that battle it out to save their own cities. Oscar winner Ben Affleck stars as the caped crusader Batman and Henry Cavill returns as Superman. Tipped to be one of the top five movies this year, Batman v Superman is set to make March 2016 one of the biggest of all time.

The Jungle Book | 7 April
Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and using the latest digital technology that was also used in Avatar, The Jungle Book will feature a star-studded cast such as Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, Christopher Walken, Lupita Nyong’o, and Bill Murray.

Captain America: Civil War | 28 April
Captain America: Civil War, a.k.a. Avengers 2.5, sees our favourites Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) go head to head in all-out war after a political situation fractures The Avengers. As if the all-star cast wasn’t impressive enough, we’ll also be introduced to Black Panther and the new Spider-Man.

X-Men: Apocalypse | 19 May
The blockbuster X-Men franchise has amassed $100 million in Australia and a total of $3 billion globally.
X-men: Apocalypse is set a decade after 2014’s smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, with Jennifer Lawrence reprising her role as Mystique and Michael Fassbender returning as Magneto. We also see James McAvoy and our own Rose Byrne join the star-studded cast.

Finding Dory | 16 June
The sequel to the Oscar winning family blockbuster Finding Nemo, which took in almost $1 billion worldwide. Dory, the friendly but forgetful blue fish, is reunited with her long lost family with some heartwarming discoveries made along the way. With Pixar’s impressive box office track record and Ellen DeGeneres again voicing Dory, this movie is set to become of one the biggest family movies of all time.

Jason Bourne | 28 July
Oscar winner Matt Damon reprises his most famous role as Jason Bourne in the fifth instalment in the billion dollar Bourne series. With Paul Greengrass as director, who previously helmed Captain Phillips and The Bourne Ultimatum, the new sequel is destined to be another huge hit at the box office.

Suicide Squad | 4 August
Suicide Squad is the latest instalment from the DC Universe, introducing the most unconventional superheroes ever that do not play by the rules. With an all-star cast including Will Smith, Oscar winner Jared Leto, Ben Affleck, our own Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), Suicide Squad will deliver this year’s new breed of twisted superheroes.

The Secret Life of Pets | 8 September
From the studio behind Despicable Me and Minions comes this new family animation about the lives of our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. Starring the voice of comedy superstars Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart, this heartwarming family comedy is set to draw in big audiences this September school holidays.

Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them | 17 November
From the Harry Potter universe comes the story of Newt Scamander (Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne), an adventurer who compiled a book with the history of magical species that is now studied at Hogwarts. His epic journey will cast a spell on a whole new generation of Harry Potter fans.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story | 15 December
From the world’s most beloved and influential franchise, Star Wars, comes the first of the anthology films that examine different areas of Star Wars. With Star Wars: The Force Awakens having just stormed the global box office ($2 billion worldwide), expect nothing less from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
