Happy Birthday Periscope! Live Streaming Platform Turns One

Over the weekend Twitter’s social livestreaming service, Periscope, celebrated its first birthday. B&T’s favourite Periscope stream was the live stream of a puddle in Newcastle, UK.

In a blog post, Team periscope said: “Saturday marked one year since we released Periscope to the world. We’ve come a long way since then and we have you, our community, to thank.

“We’re proud of what we’ve built together and we’re excited to share just how far we’ve come. As of today, over 200 million broadcasts have been created on Periscope and over 110 years of live video are watched every day on iOS and Android.”

According to a Twitter blog post, “Australians have embraced Periscope over the past year as live video broadcasts have become part of the community.

“Whether it’s getting a front row seat on the @myer runway as they launch their new fashion season, cheering on Paralympian @kurtfearnley from starting line to victorious finish at the Blackmores Wheelchair Marathon, or taking an underwater adventure with intrepid traveller @mitchoates as he broadcasts the world’s first underwater and surfing Periscopes – Australians love Periscope.”
