It seems the design team at Gap might need to brush up on their geography, after the clothing retailer causing social media outrage for selling T-shirts emblazoned with a map of China that left out territories claimed by the country.
A number of angry people took to Chinese social media to slam Gap after photos emerged online of the T-shirts being sold in Canada with no sign of South Tibet, Taiwan and the South China Sea on the map.
Gap subsequently apologised for the “erroneous” design of China’s map on the T-shirts and has vowed to carry out “more rigorous reviews” in the future.
“We are truly sorry about this unintentional mistake,” the company said in a post on Chinese social networking platform Weibo.
Gap said it has also recalled the T-shirts and destroyed them.
