Free to air channels dominate

Figures from audience viewing company, Oztam and Regional Tam, have found that the free to air networks have dominated the results from last year, with the free to air channels reaching a daily audience of 15.2 million Aussies.

The release from Freeview also noted how the free to air networks managed to grab an 83%

share of the prime time metropolitan audience during 2013.

The practice of recording your shows to watch later, time-shifted viewing, has also stayed popular among Aussies, with 8.6% of viewers time-shifting their programs.

“Once again free to air has remained the television destination of choice for the overwhelming majority of Australians in 2013,” Liz Ross, Freeview general manager, said.

“This is thanks to the diversity and number of channels now available to all Australians, the high quality of content in general and the way Australians embrace locally made shows and the fantastic range of programs across all genres.”

Ross reported that sport, reality and drama type shows proved to be the most popular for last year.

Seven’s coverage of the Australian Open has proved popular among Aussies recently, along with Ten’s live cricket coverage.
