Fox News Busted Using Fake Images Of US Protests

Los Angeles, California, USA - March 13, 2011: Fox News Truck and Camera on location parked on a street in downtown Los Angeles. Camera and light setup to record an interview on the street in Little Tokyo.

Fox News in the US has come under fire for using a digitally altered image of protests.

Fox News had been covering the ongoing unrest in Seattle’s ‘Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone’, where residents have set out the goal of creating a neighbourhood without police.

The demonstration has been mostly peaceful and has included political speeches, concerts and free food.

However, it has drawn criticism from US President Donald Trump, who described occupants as  “anarchists”.

The news outlet created a ‘photo collage’ of the protest zone, which included images of a gunman and smashed windows – nether of which had been taken at the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone.

There was no disclaimer that the photo had been manipulated.

The image of the gunman had been taken by freelance photographer David Ryder earlier this month, who told the Seattle Times “it is definitely Photoshopped”.

“To use a photo out of context in a journalistic setting like that seems unethical,” Ryder continued.

The photos have since been removed.

The Seattle Times reported Fox took down the photos after the paper inquired about them possibly being altered.

“We have replaced our photo illustration with the clearly delineated images of a gunman and a shattered storefront,” the Fox statement said.
