Football Federation Australia (FFA) may have a new deal for its free-to-air broadcast and telecommunications rights settled by next month, with bids for the rights reportedly due by Easter.
The FFA has issued a tender document to broadcasters which is understood to have three or six-year contract options, according to Fairfax.
It’s predicted the deal will include a Saturday evening A-League match, along with some of the Socceroos’ 2022 World Cup qualifiers and friendlies, Matildas matches, W-League matches, and club friendlies.
Furthermore, the broadcast deal may include exhibition matches played in Australia that feature international teams, as well as an expansion clause that enables new teams to enter the A-League.
Fairfax reported that the FFA has been in talks with Nine, Seven and Ten over the rights.
It’s been reported that the sporting body has also issued a tender for the telco rights, which includes streaming matches live.
Fairfax noted that both Telstra and Optus are considering whether or not to bid, but Optus may be hampered by a first rights clause that Telstra is rumoured to have.
