Fairfax Media has announced international market research company Ipsos as its new polling partner for Federal and State political polling in Australia.

Ipsos is a globally recognised political polling company, conducting polls in 35 countries around the world, including the US, UK, France and Canada.

To be known as the Fairfax Ipsos Poll, Ipsos will provide 10 federal polls a year, along with state based polls, including the forthcoming Victorian and NSW state elections. The Fairfax Ipsos Poll will feature across Fairfax’s mastheads including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, Brisbane Times, Canberra Times and WAToday.

In addition to the polls, Fairfax Media will also have access to Ipsos’s Issues Monitor and Global Advisor reports, which provide monthly in-depth insights into the issues facing Australia, capturing a greater diversity of views in an ever changing and fast moving political landscape and placing them in a global context.

“Fairfax has a long-held reputation as providing the nation’s best political polling and our partnership with Ipsos will take this to another level. Ipsos is a globally respected, independent pollster and their reliability of polling accuracy and global credentials are a perfect fit for Fairfax’s quality, independent journalism,” Fairfax Media director of news and business Sean Aylmer said.

“As well as the Federal and State polls, Fairfax is able to access in-depth research and the latest insights into the mood of the nation and issues that concern Australians.”

Ipsos managing director Mark Davis said: “Ipsos’s partnership with Fairfax brings together the professional, balanced expert journalists at Fairfax and Ipsos, a global research company with strong polling credentials, as well as a significant player in the Australian market and social research scene.”

Ipsos director Jessica Elgood said: “Ipsos conducts political polling globally, looking at how people view government delivery of policy and leadership. Our extensive capability and track record in polling will produce the highest quality data for the Fairfax Ipsos Poll.”

The first Fairfax and Ipsos Poll will launch later this month.
