Facebook’s “Birthday Cam” Hoping To Stop Generic Birthday Posts

Facebook is trying to avoid those generic “HBD” or just “Happy Birthday!” posts which flood people’s pages by pushing a new feature to record a video message up to 15 seconds long.

Birthday video cam, which is only available on iOS-only, will appear on the profiles of a friend on his or her birthday. Tap the button and you can record your message. A series of birthday-themed frames are also available.

Facebook claim 100 million hours of video are watched every day on the platform. Nearly eight billion views, a tally of a three-second watch time, are garnered each day.
