Facebook Launching New Reactions Other Than ‘Like’
Facebook has announced six new ‘Reactions’ to show the range of emotions you feel when a friend posts a baby photo, but there is still no ‘dislike’ button.
After Facebook co-founder and ‘even refugees should have Facebook‘ Mark Zuckerberg announced the possibility of a ‘dislike’ button the site has now launched an extension of the Like button. The new feature is being piloted in two markets, Ireland and Spain.
A Facebook spokesperson told B&T: “People come to Facebook to share all kinds of things – whether that’s updates that are happy, sad, funny or thought-provoking. And we’ve heard you’d like more ways to celebrate, commiserate or laugh together. That’s why we are testing Reactions, an extension of the Like button, to give you more ways to share your reaction to a Facebook post in a quick and easy way.”
Chief product officer at Facebook Chris Cox said: “As you can see, it’s not a ‘dislike’ button, though we hope it addresses the spirit of this request more broadly. We studied which comments and reactions are most commonly and universally expressed across Facebook, then worked to design an experience around them that was elegant and fun.
“Starting today Ireland and Spain can start loving, wow-ing, or expressing sympathy to posts on Facebook by hovering or long-pressing the Like button wherever they see it. We’ll use the feedback from this to improve the feature and hope to roll it out to everyone soon.”
Product manager at Facebook Chris Tosswill said: “We see this as an opportunity for businesses and publishers to better understand how people are responding to their content on Facebook. During this test, Page owners will be able to see Reactions to all of their posts on Page insights. Reactions will have the same impact on ad delivery as Likes do. We will spend time learning from this initial test and use that feedback to improve.”
