Facebook Launches “Lite” App For Emerging Users With Slow Connection

Kiev, Ukraine - May 20, 2013 - A social media logotype collection of well-known social network brand's placed on modern computer keyboard. Include Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google Plus, Instagram and more other logos.

Facebook Lite – a simplified version of the original Facebook app- has launched for Android users with slower internet connections.

Vijay Shankar, product manager for Facebook Lite, said that the new version will “use less data and works well across all network conditions. More than a billion people around the world access Facebook from a range of mobile devices on varying networks. In many areas, networks can be slow and not able to support all the functionality found in Facebook for Android.”

The app is designed specifically for use in countries where the wireless networks are slow and thus not able to handle all of the features in the regular Android version of the app.

The platform is less than IMB so it’s faster to install and quicker to load. Facebook Lite still has the core experiences like News Feed, status updates, photos, notifications etc. Over the next few weeks, Facebook Lite will become available in parts of Asia, Latin America, Africa and Europe.

A recent eMarketer study found that more than one billion users will access the Facebook platform each month from their mobiles in 2015. By 2019, near 90 per cent of all Facebook users will regularly access the Facebook platform via mobile.
