“It’s Disgusting, It Can’t Even Be Called Journalism!” Rebel Wilson’s Scathing Bauer Rebuke

It’s offered-up plenty of gems over the past 10 days and again Rebel Wilson’s defamation case against Bauer Media in the Victorian Supreme Court yesterday was no exception.

Wilson is suing the publisher for unflattering articles from 2015 in Woman’s Day, Women’s Weekly and OK that portrayed her as a serial liar and, as Wilson alleges, led to the actress losing lucrative roles in Hollywood.

A follow-up article that appeared in a Bauer publication just prior to the start of the current trial was yesterday described as “just disgusting” by Wilson

“It cannot be called journalism. It is a way for them to make profit and to sell magazines at my expense and at people I know’s expense” Wilson said.

A teary Wilson described the new article as complete “garbage” and called the publisher “slimy” for not revealing the journalist’s name. She also said Bauer’s legal team had attempted to “bully and intimidate” and “sling mud” at her in court during the previous three days of cross-examination.

Yesterday, Wilson’s mother Sue Bownds was called as a witness to debunk the articles that suggest Wilson had lied about her name, age and working class upbringing.

“Yes, I accept I’m a bogan. I live in the western suburbs of Sydney,” Bounds told the court describing the family’s upbringing as “lower middle class.” The trial before Justice John Dixon continues.
