Believe it or not, hypnosis on television still pulls an audience, and that was evident with last night’s debut of You’re Back in the Room, which, while not beating the almighty My Kitchen Rules, still rustled up a figure of 1.155 million.
MKR pipped Daryl Somers’ latest show at the post, taking home an audience of 1.234 million in the five city metro region, according to OzTAM figures.
The program, which sees contestants try and compete for cash prizes while under hypnosis, is the first of a number of new formats Nine is set to unveil this year in a bid to jumpstart its slow ratings thus far.
Alas, good ratings doesn’t necessarily equate to good quality or good feedback, and if Twitter was anything to go by, viewers were far from impressed.
The hypnotism in that new Daryl Somers show is so real it made me believe I was watching the worst tv show ever #yourebackintheroom

Approx 7 people on Twitter think #yourebackintheroom is hilarious. I think they’re all Channel 9 employees.

Only time (and next week’s ratings) will tell if people are truly spellbound by this new show.
