Daily Mail Tells Critics “To Get A Life” After “Legs-It” Cover Furore

Let’s be honest, the British tabloids have never been known for their subtlety; however, a cover line on the front of yesterday’s Daily Mail was so excruciating it even prompted comment from the British Prime Minister herself.

The stink erupted when the paper published a photo of Prime Minister Theresa May meeting with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon regarding Brexit.

Both leaders’ legs were on show and the editors ran with the headline: “Never mind Brexit, who won Legs-it!”

Cue the inevitable rage with people calling it sexist and demeaning. The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), which regulates the UK newspaper industry, said it has received over 300 complaints about the cover.

However, the Daily Mail was having none of it, suggesting the line was clearly an attempt at humour and told detractors “to get a life”.

Even Theresa May weighed in, telling UK media: “If people want to have a bit of fun about how we dress then so be it.

“Obviously what we do as politicians is what makes a difference to people’s lives. I think that most people concentrate on what we do as politicians.”

A spokesman for the PM’s office added: “Brexit may risk taking Britain back to the early 1970s but there is no need for coverage of events to lead the way.”
